Spanish for travelling and a typical situation: Looking for a place.
- Read the dialogue, then check on the references (after numbers) and little questions and finally try new dialogues!
A: Buenos dias(1). Disculpe, ¿Podría decirme (2) dónde (3)HAY UNA PARADA DE AUTOBUS (4)?
B: Sí, cómo no (5).
A: ¡Muchas gracias!
B: De nada.

References:
1. Buenos dias is one of the greetings. Remember the others?
2. Podría decirme = Could you tell me
3. dónde = where
4. Hay una parada de autobus: the reason for the conversation to have ever been started, looking for the bus stop. What other places can you be looking for? Which other a tourist may be interested in finding/needing to find?
5. Cómo no = claro= por supuesto: they show politeness and are adviced to follow "sí" in this situations.
6. "Una" here is a pronoun. Why do you think this was used and not "uno"?
7. Gire = turn; continue, siga= go along; tome= take
8. Derecha= right; Izquierda= left
9. La verá, la encontrará= you'll see/ find it
Now, imagine yourself there (where Spanish is spoken) and build another dialogue! ¡Suerte!
If you are planning to make a trip to a Spanish speaking country or want to know these basics, you may be interested in taking the next Survival Spanish course, coming soon (February 2010)

SPANISH WORD (S) OF THE DAY: SEGUIR
A recurrent word in blogs in Spanish is "seguidores" (noun - in the plural form- that denotes the person performing an action; such action is "seguir")

2. [+ prey] to chase, pursue
3. [+TV programme] to watch, follow
4. [+radio programme] to listen to, follow
5. [+process, progress] to monitor, follow up

Check on this ;-)
Sukhpreet's suggestion at spanish.wiziq.com: The Daily Spanish Word
My contribution today was:
Expresiones usadas (used) en el aula (classroom)/en la clase (class): Algunos (some) verbos:
Leer (to read)
Escribir (to write)
Preguntar (to ask)
Responder (to answer)
Escuchar (to listen)
Notice that all these verbs are in their infinite form. Have you noticed their different endings(they are three...)? Did you get them? I'm waiting for the answer, then! ;-)
Notes: 1) cognados (transparent & international words) are not translated - unless extremely necessary- to encourage deduction. 2)Previous posted words may be included- the case of "leer" and "escribir" to contribute to the linguistic and situational contexts- necessary for such deduction to take place, too. 3) Finally, there may be some questions for language awareness at the end.
Let's make this learning experience a cooperatively succesfull one!
